The body’s “core” (the muscles around the shoulders, abdomen, pelvis and back) play a role in almost every aspect of normal development. A child’s core muscles stabilize their body during every activity such as moving from sitting to standing, walking to running. Weak core muscles lead to poor posture, body aches and injures. This weakness can impact a child’s overall development and activities of daily living. Pediatric Potentials physical therapists work on strengthening the core muscles to ensure developmental progression for long-term functional gains, improved movement patterns and optimal posture. Improving a child’s strength can lead to enhanced self-image, encourages socialization and promotes a more active lifestyle.
