Pediatric Potentials often integrates sound into our treatments to help your child reach developmental milestones. Several of our therapists are specifically certified to deliver The Listening Program and REI. When children have sound sensitivities, limitations in language or attentional difficulties, sound therapies are often recommended to impact on their ability to process the effects of sound on their daily life.
The Listening Program™ is a music listening therapy that provides engaging brain stimulation to improve performance in school, work and life. Our Listening Program certified therapists use psycho-acoustically modified classical music to train the brain to process sound more efficiently. Children who have worked with this program with our certified therapists have shown improvements in attention, learning, listening, communication, reading, sensory processing, behavior, social engagement, and self regulation. The Listening Program™ is designed to stimulate or “exercise” the different functions of the auditory attending and processing system. This enables the brain to better receive, process, store and utilize the valuable information provided through the varied soundscapes in our lives such as music, language and the environment in which we live. Children who are affected adversely by loud or unexpected noise (hypersensitivity) are impacted with great improvement when using this program. Director Laurie Kalb’s enthusiasm about The Listening Program was used on their own website:
"Pediatric Potentials has been a provider of The Listening Program since August 2001 and we have thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the product, from the provider training, to our personal use of the program, to instructing and delivering the product to our clientele. Some of the results have been astounding. Overall, it has been well received by everyone. We love how parent friendly and professional the packaging and product delivery is. Every student we have started on the program has successfully used it, with parents finding it to be a special part in their child's day. It is well organized and takes the guess work out of program planning. The questions, 'Is it too much or not enough?' and 'Where do I begin?' don't come into play."
Rhythmic Entrainment Intervention (REI) is a custom-made auditory program created just for your child with their challenges in mind. Since 1994, The REI Institute has studied rhythm and its effects on the human nervous system. Their work details how specific rhythms and techniques facilitate improvements in many of the symptoms associated with a variety of neuro-developmental disabilities such as autism, ADD/ADHD, learning disabilities and more. Our REI-certified therapists facilitate the process of having custom-made CDs created with rhythms specifically chosen for the individual child.
Once the custom-made CDs are created, the REI Program is then implemented in the family's home. The recording is played once a day, without headphones, for 8-12 weeks. This program often results in long-term behavioral and cognitive changes for children.
